The elaborated grade is adjusted in three positions, top grade in five and the Chronometer meets the strict standards of the COSC which is +6/-4 seconds a day. Standard grade movements are adjusted in two positions with a rate of +/-12 seconds per day and a maximum variation of +/-30 seconds a day. The biggest differences are the quality of the barrel spring, its shock resistance capabilities, the balance wheel and hairspring as well as the regulator and pallet stones. Each of them costing more than the last but all featuring a 25 jewel movement. The ETA 2824-2 comes in four grades: Standard, Elaborated, Top and Chronometer. Look for Tag Heuer to move to an in house movement in the next five years or so when ETA(A Swatch Group company) is no longer obligated to sell their movements to other Swiss brands.Ĭalibre 5 is Tag Heuer's name for the ETA 2824-2 (sometimes the SW200). Typically only the manufacturer can work on an in house movement. The same can't be true for in house movements. The great thing about ETA movements is that they can be worked on by any decent watchmaker. This is why when people compare a $2000 - $3000 Tag Heuer with a $500 watch that both have an ETA 2824-2 it's not always an apples to apples comparison.
